Surgically placing a dental implant into the jawbone sounds dramatic, but when we place dental implants in our Gaithersburg dental office, we find that patients tolerate the procedure quite well and report that it is far easier than a dental extraction.
What to Expect
The reason that dental implant surgery does not cause severe discomfort is that the bone contains few nerves to induce pain. You might also be surprised to learn that our mouths heal quite quickly. We will go over ways to promote healing and how to manage any mild discomfort or bruising caused by your dental implant surgery. In most cases, over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication is all that is needed.
The gum tissue and surgical site will heal within a couple of weeks, but we still need to allow 3-4 months for the dental implant post to fully integrate with the jawbone before placing a dental implant crown. Allowing for the process of osseointegration to occur will ensure that your dental implant can withstand the load caused by chewing.
Gaithersburg Patients Love Dental Implants
Many of our patients choose to replace missing teeth with dental implants in our Gaithersburg dental office because dental implants allow for an unrestricted diet.
